Finca La Concepción is the venue I know best in Marbella. I also photograph the finca’s own decoration setups and events, so I’ve seen it in every light and every season, from the portico at midday to the gardens after dark.

About Finca La Concepción
Finca La Concepción is a historic estate on the road to Istán, five minutes from the centre of Marbella and about 45 minutes from Málaga airport. It grew around one of the first iron foundries in Spain, founded in 1837, and the ruins of the old furnaces are still there, next to the drinks area.
Around them there are about 10,000 m² of gardens, with ancient palm trees, tropical plants, fountains and a hundred-year-old walnut tree. The ceremony can take place in several spots: under the cenador, by the old foundry, in front of the portico of the chapel or under the walnut tree. Since 2024 there’s also a new indoor space, Cortijo La Concepción.
The finca has no rooms for guests, so most couples get ready in a villa or a hotel nearby, in Nueva Andalucía, Río Real or the centre of Marbella, ten or fifteen minutes away. It works for weddings of every size, from around a hundred guests to very big celebrations.

Where the photos happen at Finca La Concepción
Getting ready. I start about two hours before the ceremony, wherever you’re staying. If you’re both getting ready in the same villa or hotel, I photograph both of you; if you’re in different places, tell me in advance and we’ll plan it. The finca has a bridal room for the last touches, but the light is better outside, so we step out to a quiet corner of the garden, away from the guests.
The ceremony. Whichever spot you choose, the palm trees and the old stone give the photos their character. The portico frames the ceremony with the old house behind; under the walnut tree it feels more intimate.
Drinks and family photos. The drinks usually happen by the ruins of the foundry. It’s a good moment for the family photos: send me the list early, keep it to about ten groups, and it takes about fifteen minutes.
Your portraits. Between the palm trees, by the fountain and along the paths of the garden, when the light gets softer. About twenty minutes, and you’re back with your guests.
The party. Dinner in the garden and dancing afterwards. I stay until about an hour into the party.
Timings and light at Finca La Concepción
Weddings at the finca happen from May to October, helped by Marbella’s mild climate. Many ceremonies here start in the afternoon, between three and five, with the drinks after. In July and August, the later the better: a ceremony at six or later is cooler and the light is softer.
Approximate sunset times in Marbella: mid-May, 9:20 pm; late June, 9:40 pm; mid-July, 9:40 pm; mid-August, 9:15 pm; mid-September, 8:30 pm; mid-October, 7:45 pm.
