Molino del Duque is an old flour mill in Manilva, on the western end of the Costa del Sol, that became a family home and is now a wedding venue. The pink house, the tall palm trees and the gardens make it one of my favourite places as a wedding photographer. It also has room for a big wedding without losing its privacy.
I’m an independent wedding photographer, not part of the venue. To book Molino del Duque for your wedding, contact the venue directly.
His energy and character made us feel relaxed on our big day.
Molino del Duque, also called El Molino del Duque, is in Manilva, between Estepona and Sotogrande. Marbella is about 35 minutes away by car, and Málaga airport about an hour.
The mill was built in the early 18th century to grind flour for the town. Later it was rebuilt as a family home, and it still feels like one. The estate has about five hectares, three of them gardens, with palm trees, tropical plants, bougainvillea, an old well and a Japanese courtyard.
The whole day happens in one place: the lawn for the ceremony, the gardens and the pool for the drinks, and room for long dinner tables and a dance floor under the trees. The main house and the guest house sleep up to twelve people, so the couple and the close family can stay on site, and there’s parking for more than a hundred cars.
The venue has a list of recommended suppliers for catering, music and decoration. For more venues on this part of the coast, have a look at my Marbella wedding photographer page, or see Tayla and Moh’s wedding at Molino del Duque.
Getting ready. I start about two hours before the ceremony. If you’re staying at the mill, the rooms have good window light and the house itself gives a lot to the photos. If you’re in a hotel or villa nearby, I start there. Also, if you’re getting ready in different places, tell me in advance and we’ll plan it.
The ceremony. Most couples marry on the lawn, among the trees, with an arch and the guests in rows. In the late afternoon it’s in shade, which helps with the heat and with the light.
Drinks and family photos. Then the drinks happen in the gardens, under parasols. It’s a good moment for the family photos: send me the list early, keep it to about ten groups, and it takes about fifteen minutes.
Your portraits. The pink house, the iron balcony, the old well, the paths between the palm trees and the pool are all a short walk from each other. So twenty minutes is enough, and you’re quickly back with your guests.
The party. Dinner on the lawn under the palm trees, then the dance floor. Later, at night, the gardens and the pool are lit, which gives the last photos a different feeling. Finally, I stay until about an hour into the party.
Weddings at Molino del Duque happen from May to October. The ceremony is usually in the late afternoon, when the lawn is in shade. In July and August, the later the better: a ceremony at six or later is cooler and the light is softer.
Approximate sunset times on this part of the coast: mid-May, 9:20 pm; late June, 9:40 pm; mid-July, 9:40 pm; mid-August, 9:15 pm; mid-September, 8:30 pm; mid-October, 7:45 pm.
So send me your timeline early, and we’ll place the portraits in the best light of the day with your planner.
Why choose a local photographer for your Molino del Duque wedding?
I’m Pedro, a Spanish wedding photographer who lives on the Costa del Sol. I know Molino del Duque, its gardens and its light. Also, I work in English and Spanish, and since 2011 I’ve photographed more than 450 weddings, most of them for couples from the UK and Ireland. More about me.
What will our Molino del Duque wedding photos look like?
Documentary and contemporary. Most of the day I’m a quiet observer and photograph what really happens. In your portraits I give direction when it helps, so you never feel lost in front of the camera. Read what couples say on Google.
