After Cortijo Bravo, Hotel La Viñuela is the venue I know best. It sits right by the lake, with the mountains behind, about twenty minutes from my home, and the hotel’s events team often recommends me to their couples.

About Hotel La Viñuela
Hotel La Viñuela, officially B bou Hotel La Viñuela & Spa, is a boutique hotel on the shore of La Viñuela lake, in the hills of the Axarquía, about 40 minutes from Nerja and under an hour from Málaga airport. It belongs to B bou Hotels, the same group as Cortijo Bravo, and the lake is what makes it different: the water, the mountains of the Sierra de Tejeda behind it and the white villages on the hills.
The ceremony takes place outside, under a white pavilion that looks onto the lake. Dinner is usually outside too, under strings of lights, and later the party moves inside, where the music can go on late.
The hotel has 37 rooms and a spa, so a good part of your guests can stay where you celebrate. The rest usually stay on the coast, between Torre del Mar and Nerja. It works for small weddings and for big ones: I’ve photographed weddings there with twenty guests and with more than two hundred.

Where the photos happen at La Viñuela
Getting ready. The bride usually gets ready in the bridal suite, with hair and make-up there. I start about two hours before the ceremony. The groom and his friends often arrive ready at the ceremony area, so if you’d like photos of both of you getting ready, tell me and we’ll plan it.
The ceremony. Under the white pavilion, with the lake behind you. It’s the view most couples choose this venue for. The water level changes from year to year, but the mountains are always there.
Family photos. During the drinks, near the ceremony area, while everyone is still together. With ten groups or fewer and someone from the family to help, it takes about fifteen minutes. With more than 150 guests, a second photographer helps, so the groups don’t take the whole drinks reception.
Your portraits. By the lake and in the gardens, when the sun is low. I take you away for twenty or thirty minutes between courses, and you’re back for the next one.
The party. The cake and the first dance can be outside, and then everyone moves inside to dance. I stay until about an hour into it.
Timings and light at La Viñuela
Weddings at La Viñuela run from May to October. It’s inland, and in the late afternoon it’s usually quite hot, so a ceremony at six in the evening works best. During the drinks we can use the shade and the rooms of the hotel.
A typical day for couples coming from abroad: ceremony at six, drinks until about quarter to eight, speeches at eight, dinner until after ten, and then the first dance and the party.
Approximate sunset times at La Viñuela: mid-May, 9:15 pm; late June, 9:40 pm; mid-July, 9:35 pm; mid-August, 9:10 pm; mid-September, 8:25 pm; mid-October, 7:40 pm.
