Casa de la Era wedding photographer

Casa de la Era sits on the road to Ojén, a few minutes above Marbella. As a wedding photographer, it’s one of the venues where I work most. Most of the couples I photograph there come from abroad, from Ireland to Norway.

I’m an independent wedding photographer, not part of the venue. To book Casa de la Era for your wedding, contact the venue directly.

About Casa de la Era

Casa de la Era is on the Carretera de Ojén, next to La Cañada, about four minutes from the centre of Marbella and 50 minutes from Málaga airport. It was an old wheat farm in a small river valley, and for years a family restaurant. Since 2021 it has worked only as a private venue for weddings and events.

The name tells you where it comes from. In Andalusia, an era is the round stone floor where farmers used to thresh the wheat. The house keeps that Andalusian country feeling, with a more modern touch, and from the terraces you see the mountains on one side and the sea on the other.

The spaces are close to each other, which makes the day easy for everyone: an open-air terrace, a round ceremony space called the Ceremonial Circle, a small amphitheatre, an indoor room and a children’s area. There’s also a villa for up to eight people, so the couple or the close family can stay on site.

The venue works with a short list of approved caterers. For more venues in the area, have a look at my Marbella wedding photographer page, or see Rachel and Daniel’s wedding at Casa de la Era.

Where the photos happen at Casa de la Era

Getting ready. I start about two hours before the ceremony. If you’re staying in the villa, we do it there. If not, in your hotel or villa in Marbella, which is only a few minutes away. Also, if you’re getting ready in different places, tell me in advance and we’ll plan it.

The ceremony. Most couples choose the Ceremonial Circle or the terrace, with the mountains behind them. It’s an open space, so I can move around quietly without standing in front of your guests.

Drinks and family photos. The drinks are outside, and it’s the best moment for the family photos: send me the list early, keep it to about ten groups, and it takes about fifteen minutes.

Your portraits. The light gets warmer every hour in the afternoon, so I take you away for about twenty minutes before sunset, with the valley in front of you. Then you’re back with your guests.

Dinner and the party. Long tables outside, speeches, then dancing. Finally, I stay until about an hour into the party.

Timings and light at Casa de la Era

Weddings at Casa de la Era happen from May to October, with the ceremony in the afternoon and dinner outside. In July and August, the later the better: a ceremony at six or later is cooler for everyone and the light is softer.

For example, these are approximate sunset times in Marbella: mid-May, 9:20 pm; late June, 9:40 pm; mid-July, 9:40 pm; mid-August, 9:15 pm; mid-September, 8:30 pm; mid-October, 7:45 pm.

Also, one rule to plan around: after 11:45 pm the music has to move indoors. So send me your timeline early, and we’ll place the portraits in the best light of the day with your planner.

Questions couples ask about Casa de la Era

Why choose a local photographer for your Casa de la Era wedding?
I’m Pedro, a Spanish wedding photographer who lives on the Costa del Sol. I know Casa de la Era, its gardens and its light. Also, I work in English and Spanish, and since 2011 I’ve photographed more than 450 weddings, most of them for couples from the UK and Ireland. More about me.

What will our Casa de la Era wedding photos look like?
Documentary and contemporary. Most of the day I’m a quiet observer and photograph what really happens. In your portraits I give direction when it helps, so you never feel lost in front of the camera. Read what couples say on Google.
